Waukon is the county seat of Allamakee County and is located in the heart of scenic northeast Iowa landscapes. Waukon enjoys an blend of modern technology and friendly shops with unsurpassed natural beauty, and has many active civic/industrial improvement programs in place. The community is home to one golf course, a remarkable wellness facility, a 40-acre city park with wooden playground, hiking and biking trails, and aquatic center. There are churches of many denominations in the city and some of those church buildings are among the city's most impressive architecture. Waukon has three full service banks, two local radio stations, a weekly newspaper and a municipal airport. This community is the home to Veterans Memorial Hospital, as well as, Gundersen Health Systems Clinic.  Small town atmosphere sells Waukon, with the friendly area merchants and residents making everyone feel welcome. Waukon is located 17 miles from the Wisconsin border, 18 miles from the Minnesota border and only 15 miles from the Mississippi River. The current population is approximately 3,897.
